Spring Fairy Altoid Tin with Tutorial

It's spring and my blasse mood is giving way to fairy dreams as the weather warms and the green shows through the grass. Swoon!

This month I'm going to show you how to create this pretty little altered Altoid tin with a sweet surprise inside.

On the outside I'm using an elmement from the Altoids Inserts Fairy Tale Frames,
Art Deco Corner Set and Faux Metal Number Plate.

I've used paper from Lemoncraft, but you could use any paper you love and make this project entirely suited to your own tastes.

Inside, I've used more elements from the Altoids Inserts Fairy Tale Frames. Behind the frame I've layered elements and images to give a dimentional effect.

This project is pretty dang cute and fairly easy to recreate, but I've made a demonstration video with some pointers that you might find useful.

Wee Winged Shrines with Tutorial

Can you believe it's the first Friday of September?! (What happened to the summer? Seriously, where'd it go?) The good news is that means it's tutorial day and I have a a fun and fantastical project for you. 

This month I wanted to encourage the spreading of good will, kindness and nice surprises. These little winged shrines are just the ticket! They're pretty easy to put together, and you can get a bit smooshy and sloppy in your mess making and have a lot of fun with them.

Each of these sweet things uses a Mini House Shadowbox as a base, and Victorian Corners to finish off the peak.

Add some wings from the Steampunk Shape Set and then whatever embellishments your heart desires. Buttons, little paper flowers, charms... you name it!

The images I've chosen were all selected from thegraphicsfairy.com. She has a lovely selection of images that are free to use. The sentiments are just snipped from discarded books, but you could easily write your own or use a commercial sentiment.

I think these are absolutely the sweetest and I'm sure that given as a gift, especially a surprise for no reason at all, they'd certainly help to spread cheer and goodness.

A Bell Jar Fairy and English Fairy Garden Collage Sheet

A couple of weeks ago these two imps helped me out during preparations for my open house.

This week I have a new little helper.

She prefers a bit of space to prance around, so she has a large bell jar to play in and keep her safe.

Of course she can get out whenever she likes, but it's cool in there and she's not a fan of the current hot humid weather. (Neither am I to be honest.)

Old Timey Tuesday: Something new

I thought I'd try something new with a weekly feature sharing old grungy pictures from my personal collection.

The images are not polished and left in their grungy, smudged and speckled glory. Just how I like 'em! Without further ado...

"Sing Together" Altered Canvas

A little textured canvas today. Four inches square, covered with pieces from Gina's Texture Sheet Gears and Gears Shape Set and some paperclay bits made with this Silicone Mold. Painted white and sploshed with Silks Acrylic Iridescent Glazes. Finished off with some beautiful Botanica Flowers from Petaloo. The final touch, some snippets from a vintage children's book.

A Pixie House Shrine

I altered this cute House Shrine Box for a colour challenge that I totally missed the deadline for. 

I used to be terrified of colour but plowed through that wall. Now, I'm trying to consciously add texture to my pieces. This piece is chocked with textured elements. 

Here's the texture of the walls of this wee house. I've layered Cardstock Doily Set Intricates, painted them white and then added a smidge of colour with some ColourArte silks and H20's. I'm pretty smitten with the way it turned out.

For the roof I used sturdier chipboard pieces. There are some Feathery Flourishes (quickly becoming one of my favourite embellishments!) and Steampunk Fan blades. Again I painted them white and added some colour with ColourArte products.

The piece is finished off with some super cute Water Dew Drops from The Robins Nest, handmade ladybugs, a sweet winged vintage girlie and more. Here's the whole supply list kit-and-kaboodle.
