Potter-ish Trunks

I've had a pair of Paper Mache Treasure Chests sitting around here for ages. I had an idea what I wanted to do with them, but it took the arrival of Graphic 45's An Eerie Tale to kick my butt into gear.

 

Pretty cute, eh? And inside is packed with even more awesome...  Each of those magic little trunks hold all sorts of goodies fit for any first year Hogwart's student!

Inside each trunk you'll find the required first year textbooks, wand, scrolls, quill, mandrake, pumpkin pods, tiny owl bead, winged key, vials and bottles and scrolls and even a wizard painting (which is a mini copy of a wizard painting I did AGES ago) and more. For size reference here are the textbooks...

Now, those little trunks were a load of fun to create and I KNOW there are a few magically inclined, not-at-all-mugglish types who might want to make their own, so.... 

I created this "Little Potions" collage sheet for Alpha Stamps with a SLEW of miniature potion labels and mystical scrolls and parchments that you can use to make these...

... to fill your own Potter-ish chest, wizards room or potions diorama. Just remember, it's leviosa not leviosa.

A Book Nook

It's a busy week. Today I'm helping to setup the "Birds of a Feather" show at the Gates that I'm taking part in with an amazing bunch of ladies. Saturday is our Open House / Mad Hatter's Tea. Sunday is Horizon's Homes, Garden, Music and Fairy Door Tour. I'm feeling overwhelmed and in dire need of a fairy godmother to do all the stuff I will forget.

Because I'm so busy it makes complete sense that I'd squeeze in some extra projects. That's what I do. Procrastination through productivity of things that I aught not be doing. Here's one of the projects I did when I should have been doing 23 other things.

I've used a Graphic 45 ATC Book Box as the base. I love G45 boxes... they are incredibly sturdy! All of the papers used in this piece are from the Come Away With Me collection.

The window frame is chipboard from Maya Road, and the little flowers are Tiny Paper Roses and Mini Rose Buds from Alpha Stamps. I've accented the awning with some black dresden. But what IS it?

A book nook! A teeny weeny reading spot for fairy folk to hide and sneak a cup of tea and few pages. As soon as I completed the larger Godefroy's Book Shop I knew I wanted to created a smaller, intimate bookish space.

Inside there are stacks and stacks of tiny handmade books. A champagne wire chair and Miniature Potted Red Roses.

A Sweet Altered Spool for Cackle

This piece was created for a craft swap on craftster.org. Each participant started out with a spool and embellished to suit their partners tastes. Browsing my partner's pinterest boards I noticed she had an entire album devoted to hares and I was immediately inspired.

I've combined a 2 Inch Wooden Spools with a 3 Inch Tall Candlestick Holder to create a sort of pedestal. Sitting proudly atop is a proud little hare sculpted from paperclay.

The tiny lawn that the hare sits upon is a base layer of moss to which I have added leaves taken from
Light Pink Fabric Shabby Chic Roses and delicate sprays and leaf from the Shabby Chic Flower Embellishment.

The spool itself is embellished with this Ivory Guipure Lace and a bauble from this beautiful

Ivory Flower and Pearl Trim, and all of the elements are held in place with a pretty hatpin.

Graduation Altered Block for Petaloo

We often think of young adults heading out to face the world upon hearing the word 'graduation', but the young aren't the only ones embarking on new adventures. My mum recently graduated from a program, and is on her way to fullfilling a lifelong dream of working with horses and helping people through Equine-Assisted Therapy. I made this little altered altered block with pretty Petaloo embellishments to mark her success.

The quote "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." is from Eleanor Roosevelt and it's a great reminder for anyone who has ever questioned the validity of their ambitions.

I think those burlap flowers are absolutely charming and reflect the sweet sentimentality of the quote. They help to create a piece that is elegant, yet soft and endearing.

A some wood, paper and pretty Petaloo trims and flowers and easy as pie you create a  heartfelt reminder to pass along to someone you're proud of :)

The Faeries Return

A few years ago, to celebrate the summer solstice, I created a few fairy houses in my garden. I've done the same every year since and each year the little peoples presence grows and changes. This year we open our doors to visitors on July 5th, but there is plenty of activity already...

The next couple of weeks will be a flurry of activity as we get ready and clean up this messy place to prepare for visitors. July 5th is the big open house day, but after that date appointments for peeking are welcome.

A happy announcement - Tresors de Luxe

Yep, I am thrilled to announce that I was invited to join the Tresors de Luxe design team. Just look at this talented bunch of folks I get to make messes with for the next three months!

A Venetian Theatre

Yesterday it was an imaginary trip to France, today it's Italy and the water ways of Venice.

 

My dear husband is Italian (in case the last name didn't tip you off), his family from a town near Venice. While I know full well that every modern convenience is available to the Venetian people, I prefer to think of it as a place stuck in time. If I ever get a chance to visit, my delusional mind will fully expect costumed figures with hats, capes and masks darting through dark alleys, leaping onto gondolas, then nipping into secret eateries for fancy nibbles and plenty of drink!

Perhaps it's best I made myself a little slice of magical Venice to dream upon, using Alpha Stamps  June Paper Theatre Kit and few extra bits and bobs.

Just look at that gold dresden! If I was a wealthy woman I would spend all of my pennies on fancy dresden and candy.
