Kate Bush / Radiohead ATC SMACKDOWN!!!!

Ok, it's not really a Kate Bush/Radiohead smackdown because they are both lovely and I'm sure they wouldn't bodyslam one another, but I digress...

I watched the new "Suspiria" movie the other day. It's a remake, or rather a re-imagined version, of a 1970's Italian film of the same name. Its a horror/thriller with quite a bit of gore so it won't be everyones cup of tea. The thing is, it stuck with me for days... the visuals, the music the themes... they're all knocking about in my head.

The soundtrack was stuck in my head, and I saw that it was done by Thom Yorke, songwriter/lead singer for Radiohead. A magic sort of music combined with all that dancing and I immediately thought of  Kate Bush. All that to explain why Radiohead and Kate Bush lyrics are all over this new set of ATC's.

So, do you know your Yorke from your Bush? I'll post the answers at the end of this post. If you'd like to own one of these, pop over to my etsy shop, all my cards are listed HERE.

How do you think you did? Here's the answers:

"I should be hoping but I can't stop thinking"This Woman's Work - Kate Bush

"Kill me again with love"
Lucky - Radiohead

"Standing in the shadows at the end of my bed"
Kid A - Radiohead

"You crush the lily in my soul"
Moving - Kate Bush

"And true love waits in haunted attics"
True Love Waits - Radiohead

"I was dropped from the moonbeam and sailed on shooting stars"
Sail to the Moon - Radiohead

"All the dreamers are waking"
Nocturn - Kate Bush

"Wax me, mould me, heat the pins and stab them in"
Bulletproof... I Wish I Was - Radiohead

"We let the weirdness in"
Leave it Open - Kate Bush

"No more under the quilt to keep you warm"
The Kick Inside - Kate Bush

"If I could be who you wanted all the time"
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead

"I'm having dreams about things not going right"
There Goes a Tenner - Kate Bush

And here is the gorgeous song "Suspirium" that has been in my head for days and started all this smackdown business.

Garden Goddess ATC's

My toes are cold. I am wrapped in both a blanket and a very woolly, very warm, scarf. I am THIS CLOSE to dragging the little oil heater over to my desk and using it as a chair. I feel like I just might never ever get warm again!

I shouldn't complain. We've had such a mild, 'easy', winter.

Between this chill, and the plethora of seed catalogs Mr Pixie has strewn about the house, I can't help but long for spring.

With daydreams of blooms and sunshine in mind, I pulled out "Garden Goddess" from Graphic 45.

I used papers from the 8x8 Garden Goddess Pad and went to town making a group of artist trading cards.

A whole bunch of flowers and figures were cut from various Garden Goddess papers, then I experimented with layouts and layers.

They probably took a lot longer than they needed to... but I'm certain the warm thoughts were taking off the chill!

The butterflies on the cards are snipped from Olde Curiosity Shoppe... but really, you could use any little paper butterflies.

That little blue patch of sky is a snippet from vintage music paper with some smushed up white and blue paint.

Want to make your own? Here's the supply list:

ATC blanks
Glue
Acrylic Paint
Old paper

**You could absolutely cut your own cardboard ATC blanks from a cereal box, but THESE chunky ATC blanks are some of my favourite things. They take an absolute beating without warping at all and are super thick and strong.

If you're in this hemisphere, I hope winter is being kind to you. Stay warm, lovelies!

P.S. While we're talking about warm thoughts... I'm escaping the cold next week and headed to a warmer climate (Helllloooo Cuba!) Only digital files will be available in the etsy shop from February 2nd to 11th and my internet will dodgy at best.

P.P.S. I have a "Snowday" sale wrapping up tomorrow. Here's your coupon codes if you'd like something from my etsy shop:

SNOWDAY15 15% off $30+

A Little Big Fat Nature Journal

This month's AlphaStamps kit has sprouted an ATC sized nature themed junk journal.

Little Big Fat Nature Journal - Nichola Battilana for AlphaStamps

I separated the panels from an ATC Ticket Journal as a base for many of the pages and used some Water Media ATC Cards for others.

Really I just made a whole bunch of ATC's and then stitched those suckers together. They make a lovely fat little book.

To bind the pages I simply poked three holes in one side, and tied them together with Bakers Twine which I've muddied up with a wash of brown paint.

The interior pages are a jumble of collage sheets and papers and fussy cut bits and bobs. Check the bottom for the complete list of supplies used.

Graphic 45 Fairie Dust ATC Tags

Asked to create a self portrait project for Graphic45 my mind raced. Should I upcycle some cool old dodad? Make a steampunky something or other?! Create a super cool Sherlocian whatchamacallit with Master Detective?!?! I was a mess of ideas!

I took a deep breath, refocused, and realized the exact right thing to do was play with the fairies.
My #G45selfie includes three things I like best... ATC's, fussy cutting, and fairy folk.

As a friend of the fairies, I'm all sorts of in love with Fairie Dust. It's so cheery and colourful. I've also added butterflies from Olde Curiosity Shoppe to my project, they just seem to go hand in hand.

I love working in ATC size. If I'm feeling stuck, or need to kick my creative mojo in the pants, creating in ATC size is undaunting (is that a word?) It's a non-stressful size, but big enough to be creative.

I also love fussy cutting. I do it while watching tv, collecting those tiny snips as I cut away. My best fussy cutting tips? Use super sharp scissors and cut more than you think you'll ever use.

Toss all those elements together and you've got yourself a cute-as-can-be set of Fairie Dust ATC's. I’ve created a video to show you exactly how I created these cute little tags. (https://youtu.be/uGxSF14HY4o)

So grab some sharp little scissors, some Fairie Dust, and make some magical little tags with me.”

Magical Masquerade ATC's

This months kit at Alphastamps.com is themed "Beauty and the Beast" but I've run with the Midnight Masquerade papers and made a handful of pretty magical masquerade ATC's instead.

The colours are juicy and gem like and look lush with copper highlights. I applied some thick acrylic medium with the Quatrefoil Texture Sheet and Diamonds Texture Sheet to create some three dimentional texture.

NOTE: If you want to use your texture sheet over and over again, try a couple of coats of marine varnish to protect it and make the card super durable.

This card has adorable Small Mulberry Blossoms and pretty Lavender Purple Gardenias.

Those little Clear Iridescent Star Sequins on all of the cards are really quite nice and rather dreamy. I thought they seemed quite a bit thicker than most sequins I've worked with before.

And how gorgeous are those Gardenias in Mixed Cream Yellow Orange?

I think they turned out quite nicely. All dreamlike and rich.

See a card you like and want to swap? Shoot me a note and we can make a trade!

Want to make your own? Here's a list of all the bit's I used for these ones.

Day 15 - Not at all Christmassy Leonard Cohen ATC's

These aren't exactly holiday themed but let's face it, not everyone is into happy ho ho ho seasonal sort of things AND it's awfully nice to give something that can be enjoyed beyond the holidays.

I wanted to include a little handmade something in a package to an old friend. Nothing big, just a little something sort of sentimental.

That's the funny thing about little things - their ability to hold an awful lot of sentimentality.

I made these on the backs of playing cards that just happened to be the size of ATC's.

The quotes are all from Leonard Cohen songs or poems.

I suppose that while they may not LOOK Christmassy, they are filled with the spirit of the season. Sprinkled with care and given with love.
