NOTE: A little warning to preface this post. This project contains slightly risque content. There's nothing grotesque or completely vulgar, but if that sort of thing offends you, you may want to skip this post.
I've mentioned it before, but I have the sense of humour of a 12 year old and the mouth of a sailor which often leads to a case of gutter mind. Recently, while looking for words in an old book, I came across this passage:
The book is actually quite sweet, but there are soooo many instances of pent-up yearnings, flushed cheeks, tinglings, and characters ejaculating their dialogue all over the place. "Geesh! Calm down Eleanor!" I thought. (The author being Eleanor Porter.)
Then I thought that maybe Eleanor didn't need to calm down at all. Perhaps she just needed a proper place for those thoughts, a naughty books of secrets.
So I made one! A book filled with frisky snippets and sassy vintage photos.
It does get a bit steamy, but I'll spare us both the embarrassment of over-sharing.
The text is made up entirely of words and phrases from a beat up copy of "Sister Sue"
which are strung together to tell a new, rather dirty little tale...
which are strung together to tell a new, rather dirty little tale...
... and a there are some nice bits of old ephemera tucked in there too.
Also, vintage knickers and underthings are the bees knees! After searching for photos to include I sort of want to lounge around in giant granny panties, silk robes and stockings all day. That's pretty darned unlikely so don't worry, if you visit me I will answer the door looking like a fully clothed hobo.
Anyway, the book was great fun to work on, I've really missed playing with paper like this and creating the cheeky content was wholly enjoyable too. A little naughtiness is just the right thing once in a while.
Thanks for the reminder, Eleanor.
You always have the best vintage photos. Do you have other sources than Alpha Stamps or do you acquire most of them via online image searches?
ReplyDeleteI do have a hefty stash of vintage photos that I buy here and there. Nothing sassy though so these are all dug up from online searches. thegraphicsfairy.com is a great resource too BTW
DeleteOMG - love it, in all it's vintage naughtiness!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun book.
ReplyDeleteExcellent, love everything about this little "book" of sassy thoughts and photo's. Really, your sense of humour is awesome. We are probably cut from the same cloth, however I may answer the door in my lingerie, nothing risque, only flannels. LOL
ReplyDeleteReally like the book of naughtyness. :)
You naughty thing, you. Have you no shame? I giggled and squealed with delight and I love the butt. Too cute. You are fun, girl. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteLove! This is a fantastic little book. It was quite nice of you to provide Eleanor a bit of.... release.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love your creativity and humor!! Well done Nichola! What a great little naughty book!
ReplyDeleteoh, my! This is an absolute treasure! I adore and lust for it! I also collect racy vintage photos, but haven't run across the suggestive lines in novels to combine them with ... guess I need to check out romance novels LOL - not usually my go-to genre! What a beautiful, *beautiful* book!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm super jealous of your collection! My old photos are all of fully clothed funny looking people. I think a lot of old books would do the trick, not just romance. Language was used differently and with a bit of a dirty mind... well you know what I mean.
DeleteYou are a hoot! I never know what your brain is going to come up with next. Thanks for a little giggle this morning!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous you naughty girl!
ReplyDeletesandy xx
Feel shame I had no blushes! What a treat!
ReplyDeleteHa! I'm sure the 'adult' version would have... but I'm trying to keep it sort of clean around here ;)
DeleteNichola, you never cease to amaze me! What a lovely place for Eleanor to keep all her secrets and vintage delights. It's hard to day to imagine a time when one had to be so covert about their desires and suggestive imagery like that. . . a rather interesting time to say the least.
ReplyDeleteDo you happen to have a whole collection of those playing card (ace of spades) meanings? Is that something available online or from a collection of yours? I am always fascinated with old fortune telling and divination. One of my most precious possessions is an old, OLD dream book that my grandparents used to decide what lottery numbers to play. It must be, according to my mother, close to 80 or 90 years old now as she remembers it being around from when she was a little girl. : )
I wish I had them all! That one has been sitting in my collection for years. I'm fairly sure someone sent it to me with a swap package.
DeleteAnd what a fun book to have! I'd love to see it. I have an old Halloween book that is filled with lame party games that I love. Many of the games have a bit of a divining slant to them... but are mostly just 'who will I marry' type silliness. Still, I love that thing.
Nichola
ReplyDeleteMy my young lady! Just what would your grandmother think or say. lol.
You and I would be great friend as we both have the same "naughty" sense of humor and I've been know to turn the most innocent word into something that would be indeed make a sailor blush. My daughter often brace themselves for might what come out of my mouth especially out in public. I love your project and am so very jealous. It is fantastic! You have inspired me to create one maybe using a few snippets of a risque story I once wrote and a few graphics I have saved. Amazing and you never cease to amaze me with each project your post.
Oh I'm so glad to hear you're thinking of making your own! You know, although this is a heavily censored version of the contents, I still struggled with whether or not to share this project. It does make me happy to know that others appreciate the fun of it.
DeleteLove it.....You also do such interesting things.....
ReplyDeleteSo fabulously naughty. Love it to bits!
