Every Christmas Santa brings me a panic attack and a few lumps of anxiety in my stocking. This year was a little different. I managed to make it all the way through Christmas, even slid through New Year... no problemo! Suddenly, for absolutely no reason at all, those buggers showed up well after the fat man had left. Jerks!
Sometimes when those shitheads are around I find it helpful to distract myself. This time around I was looking into albums. Like the million different versions of Abbey Road and the subtle and not so subtle differences between them (how much of the street grate shows? is the apple misaligned?). Misprints and mistakes. Variations. It's really pretty fascinating (especially when you need minutia to get yourself out of your own head).
ANYWAY... I came across a 12" embroidery hoop in my closet and thought it would be fun to recreate a special album.
I present to you, The Unicorns "Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone" c. 2003. (original pressing of 500/marble pink) a rare and wonderful thing in cloth and string.
Above: a stolen low res image recklessly swiped from the interwebs for you to compare and contrast.
Although it's far from perfect, I've really loved getting glimpses of that pink joyous thing as it sits in my studio. Just look at it with my other neat stuff! Makes me feel... better.
While you might not be familiar with this band, or need a distraction, maybe this will inspire a little creation for a music lover in your life. Valentines is coming up... what about stitching up an embroidered copy of the album 'your song' is on for your sweetie? Maybe a sentimental something for yourself? An oldie but goodie for your mum or dad?
