He brought this home the other week. For the love of limited storage, why? But he plugged it in and it worked and suddenly I was nostalgic, remembering dancing around in my bedroom to 'Safety Dance' or 'Take on Me'. Deciding that perhaps this old thing wasn’t really junk after all I set to work on giving it a makeover.
For all of the curvy bits and odd shaped angles I simply covered with Washi Tape. LOVE the thick black tape with the Typography pattern because it can be torn and cut and stuck together and the edges practically camouflage themselves! The rest is covered with Inspire, Create, Inscribe and Dream.
This funky piece is now sitting in my working studio where I will make messes to the K-Billy's Super Sounds of the Seventies... or something like that ;)
... and an old radio
More greatness on the Graphic 45 blog. Hop over and check out the goodies!
We were just watching a show set in the late 40's and my heart swooned at the old cathedral shaped radio broadcasting the news in the background. Now I am, of course, as in love with what TV and technology have brought to our world. . . but why must it always be at the expense of the wonderful things that came before? So your project has solidified this idea of mine to find one of those old cabinet radios, even if the radio does not work, and insert a dial light and a speaker into it that I can connect to our laptops. This is, of course,, specifically for listening to the vast archive of Doctor Who radio dramas. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I too remember the summer nights of youth spent sitting outside with the little transistor radio playing and hoping to hear the favorite songs... A few of those faves were, "Come Back and Stay", "Planet Earth?" "(In) Cars" "What Is Love?" "New Years Day" and on and on. . .
Thanks for stirring memories as always. :)

Go Green Nichola! What a great way to save a piece of history and our landfills at the same time! Let's face it, even if it did not work- what a cool looking piece- and how useful it would be(unworking of course)for assemblage projects! Yay!
ReplyDeleteHave a super day- I really do love your new-old radio! ")
