The countdown is on! My house will be invaded tomorrow and I'm not nearly ready. I'm at the cusp of either throwing my hands in the air and proclaiming "It is, what it is. Deal with it, baby!" or having a full blown panic attack. Could go either way.
To make matters worse I had a little accident and lobbed off a good chunk of my finger. I'll be fine... but it's slowing things down.
On a brighter note, this happened...
I went through all my linens, washed like stain removal boss, and now have a pristine collection that I'm thinking I should probably never, ever touch because it'll never be this pretty again.
Throughout all this cleaning madness I've realized something; I DO like having clean and orderly things... but I NEED my mess too. My jumbled shelves of stuff calms. The clean spaces make me an uptight crank (ask my kid, he'll totally agree.)
Sorry about your pour finger, and after all don't sweat the small stuff about tidiness!
ReplyDeleteRemember, your guests are coming to see you, not your house:) It will be fine. Relax and enjoy:)
ReplyDeleteNichola: yours is a magical faerie haven, all will be well and happy to those who are blessed to both enter and dwell there. Wish I could pop in for a spell! Love to you and yours. BREATHE. Repeat. xo sheila R in MS
ReplyDeleteOuch! :( Take Deep Breaths. And you linens look lovely :) I have more cultch than I know what to do with and I love every bit of it lol! Happy clutter is good for the Soul.
ReplyDeleteI think I need a sign that says that "Happy clutter is good for the Soul."
DeleteDust and dust bunnies will be there, always, just ask me, my mantel piece is covered, but it's also covered with my precious things too, too many of them! Makes cleaning difficult and timely. Life is too short to think about the small stuff all the time. Cutting your finger, well, that is a biggy and definitely would slow you down. Sit back with a cuppa and enjoy your lovely clean vintage linens! Looks great in that old "dresser"/desk. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks suzyb ;)
DeleteI'm so glad to hear that someone else also feels that the jumbled shelves calms them. When everything around me is clean & tidy I am less likely to get anything done out of fear of making a mess again. And I love that part of your 'header' - "Maker of Messes". Bless you!
ReplyDeleteMe too! If my space is tidy I just sort of sit there and wonder what the heck I'm supposed to do!
DeleteI have ADD and was told that if you can contain your messiness to just one room, you are doing well. That was pretty much the case when I was told that but years later, from the spare bedroom it has flowed up the hallway and into the dining room, (my dinner table is now a catchall of crafts done and in the process of getting done, and my mess seemed to have crawled across the hallway and into MY bedroom. So does this mean that my ADD is getting worse or does it simply mean that I am expanding my artsy/ craftsy interests. I prefer to think the later. I got a package from Amazon the other day and my husband asked what kind of "treasure" I received................."fussy-cut scissors and cheap because that model had been replaced by a new model and the shipping was free". He didn't argue. He lets me be me.
ReplyDeleteMy mess spreads too ;) Your hubs sounds like a wise man, letting you be.
DeleteI thought I'd wait till the company had gone before commenting- are you still alive? how about sane- are you still sane? teeheehee Hope it was a wonderful weekend for you and everyone else! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie. It was a blur but I seem to have survived intact :)
