Breakfast guests

This morning a couple of pileated woodpeckers enjoyed breakfast behind the house.

(Now with video that actually plays!)

Gave me quite a startle when this fellow took flight!

  1. My mum has quite a few of these guys. She has a lot of birds period. I wish I could feed them here but between the pigeons and the gulls it gets toooo messy. I miss feeding the birdies.

    1. They're messy here too. Drives my husband nuts when the seed falls on the deck and starts sprouting between the planks.

  2. My Mom has two naughty woodpeckers. We put Suet out for them to keep them from pecking on the side of her house. They can be quite destructive if ignored, lol.

    1. They are incredibly destructive! Thankfully there are loads of buggy trees for them here and they leave our house alone *knocks on wood*

  3. Great job of filming, cute too. Those are lovely birds, I haven't seen any here in Victoria yet but I'm sure we have them. I too love birds.
    Thanks for sharing that.

    1. They are the weirdest! lol Quite shocking to see in real life because they are rather large and look just a bit maniacal.

  5. I've watched this FOUR times today! LOVE IT! I am in awe of our feathered friends all around us. We have noticed a Red Finch pecking at the coconut husk liner in our flower boxes for it's nest. . . I am going to try and get her on camera soon!

    1. I have two zebra finches indoors named Monday and Tuesday, whom I love. One of them is a little skinnier than the other and could escape from the enclosure in my 'showroom'. Little bugger picked apart a dangly sparkly thing for it's nest, as well as the coconut fiber roof of a little house. HUGE chunks missing from this little bird! Needless to say measures have been taken so that the littlest finch can no long escape.
