YEARS ago I made this 'Mystic Swami Spirit Board'.
Recently someone inquired about it, and since I'm on a Halloweeny kick, and since the idea peaked my fancy, I decided to revisit the project.
Look what few years of farting around with art and craft supplies can do! What a difference! I'm tempted to paint one of these every year to mark the improvement in my skills.
He's looking a little pasty in this pic... let's just ignore that okay.
Just like the original it's painted upon one half of a used wine barrel lid. Made with 1" thick oak staves, and measuring 22" wide, it's a hefty thing.
And I KNOW that some people have strong opinions about Ouiji and spirit boards so let me just say this: this is used wood with letters painted upon it. Glue guns on the other hand, now those things are pure evil.
That turned out great! And I think that Ouija boards only have the power that someone *believes* they have. :)
ReplyDeleteGlue guns ARE evil!! They are fabulous and evil all at the same time. This is a gorgeous board, Nichola.
ReplyDeletegreat board,I think what you did was very creative and I agree with tina it's just a board until someone believe it's something else

I agree - glue guns are evil. Did you ever get any action on your complaint about the Adtech gun???
ReplyDeleteI love both the boards - they are gorgeous and I love that they are reclaimed wood from wine cask lids. BTW - does that not mean they are literally imbued with spirits? I think they would be fabulous pieces of unusual, quirky wall art.
I do have a Ouija story though - I was playing around with one with a couple of friends one night when I was in my 20s. Then it started to spell out a name. The name was my grandfather's Anglicized name (we're Chinese). I had just come from his funeral that morning and none of my friends were ever told he passed away, or even knew his name. Just weird. I never did play with another one. I have enough guilt from living relatives - I don't need more piled on by the ones who have passed on!
NONE! They never said a word, no reply at all, AND Walmart refused to post my review twice. I did file a complaint with the consumer safety organization though so my conscience is clear.
DeleteAnd YES! They are LITERALLY imbued with spirits. lol
Good - and you posted the post here too, and I think about it every time I pass by the glue guns at Walmart - I may have even mentioned it to one person looking at them.
